Warm Roofs

Warm roofs are rapidly emerging as the preferred choice for conservatories, thanks to their ability to swiftly convert existing spaces into usable rooms around the clock. At Baldwin Home Improvements, we specialise in supplying and installing the highest quality warm roofs available on the market!

But what exactly is a warm roof?

A warm roof is a well-insulated, lightweight tiled roof, similar to those found on houses. It features a tiled finish on the outside, insulation and rafters in the middle, and a plastered finish on the inside of the room. These roofs are specifically designed to replace traditional glass or polycarbonate roofs typically installed on conservatories.
Our warm roofs have gained immense popularity because they can transform conservatories that were once too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter into spaces that regulate their temperature, making them usable year-round. They are designed to sit on UPVC window frames, allowing for installation as replacement roofs on existing conservatories, as part of new build conservatories, or even as the roof for single-story extensions.

The warm roof systems we supply and install are constructed using timber rafters instead of aluminium rafters. Timber, known for its strength and natural insulation properties, is the primary material chosen for its construction. This ensures that the roofs are exceptionally sturdy while meeting the required thermal performance standards mandated by building regulations.

Like all the products we offer, our warm roof systems are highly customisable. They are available in various style configurations, whether it’s a simple lean-to, a 5-sided Georgian, or a combination of both! Choose from two types of tiles in a range of colours to achieve the closest match possible to your existing house. Additionally, there is the option to incorporate glazed roof panels and opening Veluxes to bring in extra light if desired!

Whether you’re considering a replacement conservatory roof or a new build, our warm roofs offer exceptional quality and performance. To explore the full range of benefits and make your conservatories usable year-round, please click here to view our product brochures!

Frequently Asked Questions

Will a warm roof make my conservatory usable all year round?

Yes, adding a solid tiled roof can make your conservatory up to 90% warmer in winter and 70% cooler in summer, while also reducing noise pollution and solar glare.

Do I need building control approval for a warm roof?

In most cases, yes. Our warm roof system is fully compliant with building control regulations, making the process simpler with pre-approval from building inspectors.

Is a solid roof too heavy for my existing conservatory base?

No, a warm tiled roof is only slightly heavier than a glass roof. If your structure shows no signs of distress, your existing foundations should be adequate for the added weight, as per LABC guidelines.

Will my room feel darker with a solid roof?

You might lose 5-10% of natural light, but with a white plaster ceiling and options like ceiling lights, Velux roof windows, or Icoview glass panels, the difference will be minimal.

Is condensation a concern with warm roofs?

Yes, which is why Icotherm roofs are fully ventilated systems made with timber, a material with low thermal conductivity that helps reduce condensation risks.
